Student support and wellbeing
At Arnewood, alongside academic progress we take the wellbeing of every student seriously - their happiness, safety and sense of belonging. We have a caring and experienced team in place to support students through whatever they might be facing, and we want every student and family to know who to turn to and how to get help.
Pastoral support
Every student at Arnewood has three important people looking out for them.
First, their Form Tutor - the person they see every single day. Tutors check in with their students each morning, building the kind of consistent, trusted relationship that means students always have a familiar face to turn to. It's a small but significant part of what makes Arnewood feel like a community.
Second, their Head of Year - the key pastoral lead for their year group, responsible for overseeing wellbeing and progress and working closely with families.
Third, their Assistant Head of Year - full-time, non-teaching members of staff who are available throughout the school day for hands-on support, day-to-day concerns, and liaison with families. They are a consistent and reassuring presence for students who need a little extra help.
If you have a concern about your child's wellbeing or progress, please contact their Head of Year in the first instance. For more urgent or serious concerns, members of our Senior Leadership Team are always available.
Safeguarding
The safety of every student is our highest priority. Our Safeguarding team is:
- Mrs A. Reece - Designated Safeguarding Lead and Assistant Headteacher
- Mrs L. Sheppard - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (Sixth Form)
- Mr P. Barrett - Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Headteacher
- Mr J. Anderson - Child Protection Liaison Officer, Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and Headteacher
You can contact the safeguarding team at any time: safeguarding@arnewood.hants.sch.uk
Please use this address if you are a student, parent or carer needing help, or a member of the community wanting to report a concern about a child's welfare. If a child is in immediate danger, please call 999.
Anti-Bullying
We take bullying seriously and have a clear Anti-Bullying Policy in place. We work hard to create a culture where every student feels safe and respected - but if bullying does occur, we act quickly and decisively. If you or your child has concerns about bullying, please contact their Head of Year without delay. A copy of our Anti-Bullying Policy is available in our policies section.
