Why choose Arnewood Sixth

Arnewood Sixth is something a little different. It sits at the heart of the school - and deliberately so. Our Sixth Form students aren't separate from the community; they're central to it. They lead charity events, support reading programmes with younger students, and act as role models. That sense of responsibility and belonging is part of what makes Arnewood Sixth special.

At the same time, the Sixth Form has its own dedicated block - a space that feels distinct from the rest of school. The atmosphere is closer to a university than a classroom: independent, purposeful, and built on a genuine balance of trust, challenge and support. You're treated as an adult - and expected to act like one.

We want every student who leaves Arnewood Sixth to be ambitious, confident and kind - ready to lead a happy and fulfilled life. Everything we do is designed with that in mind.

In 2025, student progress at Arnewood Sixth was above the national average. An outstanding 84% of Year 13 students secured places at their first-choice university, with every leaver going on to university, an apprenticeship, or employment with training. Our high-flyers programme provides specialist support for Russell Group applicants, and Sixth Form tutors work with students individually and in small groups to prepare them for whatever comes next. We set high expectations - and we give students everything they need to meet them.

Our Careers Adviser works one-to-one with every student, and Life Skills workshops bring in expert external speakers throughout the year. Whether your destination is a competitive university course, a degree apprenticeship, or employment, you'll leave with more than just grades - you'll leave prepared. Unifrog, our award-winning careers platform, supports students in researching pathways, building their profile and tracking applications from Year 12 onwards. And because we consider each student as an individual, your programme of study is shaped around your strengths, interests and goals - not a one-size-fits-all timetable.

Alongside their A Level or BTEC courses, every student takes part in a weekly enrichment activity - part of our personal development programme built around three core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World. A fourth strand, our Futures programme, develops intellectual curiosity, study skills and real-world readiness. We work with a wide range of external organisations and visiting speakers to ensure students leave Arnewood Sixth not just qualified, but genuinely ready for adult life.

Sixth Form life at Arnewood extends well beyond the classroom. Students take on leadership roles, run charity events, and volunteer in the school - mentoring younger students and supporting reading programmes that make a real difference. The busiest students are usually the most successful, and we actively encourage everyone to get involved. That spirit of contribution - giving something back while you grow - is central to what we mean by Together.

Our dedicated Sixth Form block provides a home for that community: study spaces, common rooms and a careers hub, alongside access to our full-size astro turf pitch, New Milton Health and Leisure, and our Performing Arts hub with drama studios, practice rooms and music spaces. We're excited to share that our Sixth Form centre is currently being refurbished - due to complete in September 2027 - and will include new common rooms, study areas and a café.
