Year 7 Christmas Shoeboxes
Vulnerable children across Europe will enjoy a better Christmas thanks to the generosity of Year 7 students at The Arnewood School. The 12- and 13-year-olds packed 50 shoeboxes with personalised messages and special items.
Head of Year 7, Mr Emecz invited Chair of Governors, Elizabeth Cook to meet with a group of Year 7s for the handover. Mrs Cook collected the packages in collaboration with Milton parish Church and delivered them to the charity.
Headteacher Mr Anderson said: “The generosity and energy of our students never fails to impress. These shoeboxes will make a great deal of difference to many children and their families.”
“As well as striving for academic success, we impress upon our students the importance of charity and being good people.”
It is more than 25 years since the first shoebox appeal was launched for the benefit of Romanian orphans.
Through the Teams4U charity the boxes will be distributed to schools, nurseries, hospitals and orphanages in Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Bosnia and Romania.
Teams4U asks for toothbrushes and toothpaste, hair accessories, soap, face cloths, stationery and paper, gloves, hats and scarfs, new socks and underwear, soft toys, games, puzzles, small musical instruments, toy vehicles, sweets and a photo and message from the person who put the box together.
