Safeguarding Fayre

The Arnewood School were delighted to team up with Hampshire Police Education Partnership Team to hold their first ever Safeguarding Fayre on Wednesday 11^th October as part of Hampshire Safeguarding Children Week. The school organised for all students to meet and engage with key people who support the welfare of young people in keeping them safe. The fayre welcomed visitors from their neighbo
uring school, Eaglewood as part of the Gryphon Trust.

The Fayre also featured a dynamic drama production for students called ‘Breaking the Chain.’ The play, produced by Narrative Alchemy, aims to raise awareness, and educate students about knife crime and youth violence.

Mrs Reece, Assistant Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead said, “there was a real buzz in the air as every student across the school supported by their teachers visited the fayre throughout the day. At Arnewood the safeguarding and welfare of our students is of utmost importance to us.”

In the summer term of 2023, Arnewood Sixth Leadership Team did us proud as they raised approximately 50% of the costs towards the production with the summer ‘Sponge the teacher’ fundraising event. Another fabulous team effort by the school and great fun.

Stall holders, in the school gym, provided information and activities that promoted safety and wellbeing, as well as highlighting key support figures. Attendees included representatives from, Solent Mind, NHS YP’s Social Prescribers, Yellow Door, Hants Fire and Rescue Team, Willow Team, Catch 22, Violence Reduction Unit – OPCC, Youth Commission and Hampshire Constabulary.

Headteacher of the Arnewood School, Mr Anderson said “It is excellent to see so many local organisations working together to keep the young people in our community safe and well.”

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Team brought along some incredibly special guests who proved to be popular among the students. Fire investigation dogs: Hoodie, Eric, Saxon and Red joined us for the day! Two of which are puppies in training, who made handlers, Fire Investigation Officer Andy Earl, and Fire Investigation Officer Graham Howlett, immensely proud.

On entry to the fayre, students were given an engagement card that could be stamped by each of the stalls once they had participated in conversation or activity. The completed cards went into a prize draw to win amazon vouchers.
