Student Leaders Create a Lasting Space.

A group of Arnewood pupils have been working towards obtaining their Student Leadership Accreditation with the help of Miss Gardiner. As one of their projects the Student Leaders have looked at improving the school gardens and reached out to the wider community for assistance.

New Milton Sand and Ballast (NMSB) have collaborated with the students throughout the summer to transformation the school’s memorial garden. The space was originally created in remembrance of staff and students who have passed away. The new garden design would offer a more calm area that students and staff could visit to think and reflect.

Miss Gardiner, deputy head of humanities at Arnewood, said: “The garden is absolutely amazing and has exceeded all expectations.

“It is something that staff and students will be able to enjoy for many years to come, and we are very grateful for all who helped us with donating time and materials towards the project.”

The Student Leaders  visited one of NMSB’s sites to learn about  sustainability and ecology in the local community. NMSB worked with the youngsters to bring their ideas to life, agreeing to donate all the materials including benches, decorative aggregates and paving slabs. 

On the final day of the project, a team from Jasper Miller Landscaping came along to bring the finishing touches, building the fencing and wooden structures.

NMSB managing director Rob Flower said:

“We are very proud of this project. As a local family business, Arnewood School plays a part in many of our employees’ lives, and supporting our local community and enhancing environments are part of the core commitments for NMSB.

It was great to be a part of something that saw the students take their ideas from design through to completion and provide such an important space for students and teachers to use.”

An opening ceremony was held for all parties involved where Chair of Governors, Mrs Cook officially opened the garden. The Student Leaders were then presented with their certificates and congratulated for their incredible efforts.
