National Apprenticeship week 2024

The Arnewood School celebrated National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) from the 5th to the 12th of February. During tutor time the focus was on increasing knowledge and awareness of Apprenticeships. Each tutor group entered into discussions, participated in an apprenticeship quiz and were given activity booklets to complete throughout the week..

All students, parents and carers were invited to join the virtual Unifrog Apprenticeships fair on Wednesday 7th February to learn all about the world of apprenticeships. The fair allowed participants to explore the latest apprenticeship opportunities, attend live sessions with top employers including the MET Office, BBC, Lloyds Banking Group, and the NHS, and network one-on-one to get top tips on how to find and apply for an apprenticeship.

A former student happened to notice that Arnewood was celebrating NAW on social media and reached out to share their apprenticeship story:

This time last year I was a stressed out year 13 who didn’t get the best mock grades and couldn’t get my head around English literature. I had no plan, but everyone around me was applying to uni. 

 Now, I work at an events company as a marketing executive apprentice who is about to go to London Olympia for a childcare and education expo. It took me 3 months to get my apprenticeship. I want to remind  students not be disheartened if they don’t get through on their first application and encourage them to keep trying.

 I thought my story might be able to help some of your students to feel less worried about their options and scared to take the apprenticeship route.

 I also wanted to thank you for all your support and advice because I wouldn’t be where I am today without you. 

This Arnewood alumni now works at Broadway Events , an award-winning events management company based in Ringwood.
