Please email this address if you are a student, parent or carer needing help, or a member of the community wanting to report something causing you concern (e.g. suspected abuse or neglect which does not require an immediate call to the police.)

The Arnewood School is committed to protecting our students, preventing impairment of their health and development  and providing safe and effective care that enables them to have optimum life chances and to successfully move forward into adulthood. 

We aim for a consistent approach  to practices  throughout the school that are understood and adhered to by all staff, governors and volunteers. We recognise that adults have a tremendous impact on young people and, with this in mind, adults at The Arnewood School:

• work within the agreed policies of the school
• create an environment of trust whereby the young people feel secure, valued, cared for and where they are listened to non-judgmentally.

In developing an ethos of openness with parents and carers, this page draws attention to a number of our polices and procedures. We welcome feedback and hope that all parents/carers feel welcome at school and that any queries, concerns or problems are taken seriously and addressed quickly. In the first instance these should be addressed to the relevant Head of Year but members of the Senior leadership Team are always available for more serious and immediate concerns.

The Governing Body as a whole recognise the importance of safeguarding and have joint responsibility in this regard. They review all related policies and procedures annually. The Governor link for safeguarding is Elizabeth Cook who takes the leads for governor’s strategy for ensuring safeguarding arrangements.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined within “Keeping Children Safe in Education” as:- 

• protecting children from maltreatment;
• preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development;
• ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and
• taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
